The Secret to Removing Haze from Black Paint

Ever finish polishing your black car only to see a cloudy haze where the gloss should be? It’s a common issue—and the good news is it’s 100% fixable. In this post, I’ll show you how to remove haze from black paint and bring back that deep, glassy shine.

What Causes Haze on Black Paint?

Hazing usually comes from one of three things:

  • Using a polish that doesn’t finish well (often a compound)
  • Overheating the paint from excessive passes
  • Wiping with a low-quality or dirty microfiber towel

Black paint makes all of these mistakes more visible because of its deep reflective surface.

How to Remove Haze the Right Way

✅ Step 1: Use a Finishing Polish

Switch to a fine polish that’s designed to leave no haze. I use Picture Perfect Polish—it cuts lightly but finishes crystal clear, even on soft black paint.

✅ Step 2: Use a Softer Pad

If you used a cutting pad originally, switch to a black or burgundy foam pad. This helps smooth out the finish without overcorrecting.

✅ Step 3: Wipe Down Gently

Wipe the panel with a fresh, clean microfiber like the Softer Than Soft Microfiber Towel. Avoid pressuring the towel into the paint—just glide it across with clean flips.

✅ Optional: Use a Paint Prep Spray

To check your work, you can use a paint prep spray to remove polishing oils and reveal the true finish. Just don’t overuse it—especially on soft paint.

How to Prevent Haze in the First Place

  • Use a finishing polish instead of a compound
  • Don’t overwork the polish—stick to 4–5 section passes
  • Use high-quality microfiber towels, not cheap ones

Most importantly, trust your product. Picture Perfect Polish is formulated specifically to avoid this issue—and it works.
