Cerakote Ceramic Sealant Review – Is It Worth the Hype?
Cerakote® Ceramic Sealant has been gaining attention for its promise of slick, hydrophobic protection in a quick spray application. But does it live up to the marketing, or are there better options for your money? We put it to the test against Tough As Shell to find out.
What Cerakote Promises
- Up to 6 months of ceramic protection
- High gloss finish
- Fast spray-and-wipe application
- Safe for paint and glass
On paper, these features look solid—but real-world detailing often tells a different story.
How It Performed in Testing
We applied Cerakote Ceramic Sealant to half of a vehicle’s hood and Tough As Shell to the other half. Over the next several months, we observed:
- Water Beading: Good at first, but started to weaken after the 4–5 month mark.
- Gloss Retention: Gloss remained decent, but lost some slickness over time.
- Ease of Cleaning: Still better than unprotected paint, but didn’t repel grime as long as Tough As Shell.
Where It Falls Short
While Cerakote is easy to apply, it’s limited in surface compatibility compared to Tough As Shell. It’s also marketed for shorter-term protection—meaning you’ll need to reapply more often, which adds time and cost in the long run.

Our Take
If you’re looking for an easy-to-apply ceramic spray, Cerakote delivers a decent result. But if you want more durability, a higher gloss finish, and the ability to use one product across paint, glass, trim, wheels, and PPF—Tough As Shell is the better buy.
