How to Use a One-Step Polish Like a Pro

Gone are the days of needing three products, four pads, and six hours to get swirl-free paint. With a high-quality one-step polish and the right pad, you can correct and perfect your paint in one go.

Whether you're just starting out or want to save time without sacrificing results, here’s your step-by-step guide to using a one-step polish like a pro.

Step 1: Wash and Decontaminate the Paint

Start with a clean, smooth surface. Any dirt or contamination will interfere with polishing.

Step 2: Choose the Right Pad

Since one-step polishes are pad dependent, your pad controls the result:

  • ✅ Use a cutting pad for moderate swirls and oxidation
  • ✅ Use a polishing pad for light defects and gloss enhancement
  • ✅ Use a finishing pad for ultra-soft paint or final refining

Step 3: Apply the Polish

Use 4–5 pea-sized dots on your pad and dab it onto the panel before turning on your polisher. This reduces sling and ensures even coverage.

Step 4: Work a 2' x 2' Section

Set your machine to a medium speed. Work in overlapping passes until the product becomes clear or starts to flash. This usually takes 4–6 section passes.

Step 5: Wipe Off with a Soft Towel

After polishing a section, wipe off residue immediately using a soft, clean towel.

Step 6: Inspect and Adjust

Use a swirl finder light or direct sun to inspect your results. If more correction is needed, switch to a heavier pad or increase working time slightly.

Step 7: Protect the Paint

Once the paint is corrected and clear, lock it in with a ceramic spray:
