How to Wash a Car Without Scratching It
Most swirls and scratches happen during the wash. Here’s exactly how to wash your car without leaving behind damage—even if you’re doing it in your driveway.
Why Scratches Happen During Washing
Even clean-looking cars have abrasive particles stuck to the surface—dust, pollen, road grime, and more. If you touch that with a dirty mitt or rough towel, you’re dragging that grit across your paint. That’s what causes swirl marks, hazing, and micro-scratches.
Step 1: Pre-Foam the Vehicle
Use a foam cannon and The Super Soaper to blanket the car in thick foam. Let it sit for 2–4 minutes to break down grime and gently lift dirt off the surface.
Step 2: Rinse Before Touching
Rinse the foam off before making contact. This helps reduce the amount of debris you’ll drag during the wash.
Step 3: Use a High-Pile Microfiber Towel
Forget sponges and cheap mitts. Use a soft towel like the Orange Wash Microfiber Towel to safely glide across the paint. The fibers trap dirt and pull it away from the surface, reducing friction.
Step 4: Work in Sections Top to Bottom
- Wash one panel at a time
- Rinse your towel in clean soapy water after each section
- Never reuse a dirty towel—grab a fresh one if needed
Step 5: Dry Without Damage
Use the Massive Drying Towel to blot and gently wipe the surface dry. It’s soft, absorbent, and reduces the chance of marring.
Optional Step: Add Protection as You Dry
Mist on Tough As Shell during drying to add slickness, UV protection, and water repellency—all without extra effort.
