Is Thor Blending (House of Rags) Really Custom Chemistry?
Is Thor Blending from House of Rags truly delivering “custom chemistry”? Let’s take a closer look—and I’ll share what I’ve seen (and what many detailers are now questioning) about this new private label service.
What Is Thor Blending?
Thor Blending is House of Rags’ new program promising:
- “Custom blended” detailing chemicals.
- Low minimum order quantities.
- Fast brand launches for new detailer brands.
- “Proprietary technology” and “factory direct” benefits.
Sounds great on paper → but many in the industry are asking hard questions about what’s really being offered.
Where the Questions Come In
- Lead times and shipping delays → multiple buyers reporting long delays and high shipping costs → not what you expect from a true “factory direct” model.
- Limited product innovation → much of the catalog appears to be basic white-label chemistry already available elsewhere.
- No proven R&D pipeline → no public track record of House of Rags developing cutting-edge chemical formulas.
- Unclear support for scaling brands → multiple reports of inconsistent supply → not a great look for people building businesses on these products.
Is This Really “Custom Chemistry”?
Here’s the core issue many pros are now seeing:
Real custom chemistry means:
- Working directly with chemists.
- Co-developing formulas from scratch.
- Iterating and improving based on testing and user feedback.
- Bringing something new and differentiated to the market.
From what I can tell—and what many in the detailing space are now discussing → Thor Blending is not delivering that level of innovation.
It’s positioned as a “custom” solution → but under the hood it looks a lot like basic private label white-label products.
How Jimbo’s Detailing Does It Differently
When I built Jimbo’s Detailing, I refused to go the private label route. Instead:
- I worked directly with chemists → every product in our lineup is developed from the ground up.
- We test obsessively → real-world testing with pro detailers and DIYers.
- We constantly iterate → our formulas evolve based on customer feedback and performance testing.
- We don’t rely on trendy packaging or hype → we rely on performance.
That’s why products like Tough As Shell and The Gloss Boss consistently outperform what you’ll find in many private label catalogs.
The Bottom Line → Be an Informed Buyer
If you’re thinking about building a brand through Thor Blending → or buying products based on their promises → here’s my advice:
- Ask tough questions about the chemistry → where was it developed? Who are the chemists?
- Look at lead times and support → can they truly scale with your brand?
- Test for performance → compare their products side by side with truly custom-developed products like what we offer at Jimbo’s.
At the end of the day → real custom chemistry takes time, testing, and investment → and that’s what we put into every product we bring to market.
If you want proven, pro-level results → Tough As Shell and The Gloss Boss are battle-tested and trusted by pros and enthusiasts alike.
