How to Prevent Water Spots When Washing in the Sun
Washing your car in the heat isn’t ideal—but sometimes it’s your only option. Here’s how to work smart and avoid water spots, streaks, and etching on your paint.
Why the Sun Makes Water Spots Worse
As water evaporates on a hot panel, it leaves behind minerals like calcium and magnesium. These can etch your clear coat, especially on dark or ceramic-coated paint.
Tip #1: Pre-Foam and Rinse Panel by Panel
Foam first with The Super Soaper to loosen grime before touching the paint. Rinse each section right away to avoid dwell-time evaporation.
Tip #2: Dry Immediately with a High-Absorbency Towel
Never let rinse water air dry in direct sunlight. Use a towel that can soak up water in one pass without streaking or dragging.
Tip #3: Apply a Ceramic Spray to Help Water Sheet Off
Tough As Shell helps water sheet faster, so less sits and evaporates on the paint.

Bonus Tip: Use Filtered or Deionized Water
If your hose water is extremely hard, consider rinsing with filtered or DI water—or at least use Pure Magic Cleaner to remove any buildup after washing.
