How to Apply Ceramic Spray Correctly

If your ceramic spray is streaky, sticky, or not beading—it’s probably being applied wrong. Here’s exactly how to apply it for great results.

How to Apply Ceramic Spray Correctly

Ceramic sprays are easy to apply—but only if you follow a few key steps. This guide walks you through how to apply them without streaking or wasting product, plus how to get the most out of every application.

How to Apply Ceramic Spray Correctly

Don’t waste a good ceramic spray with a bad application. Here’s the step-by-step method that guarantees success.

Step 1 – Work in the Shade on a Cool Surface

Heat is the enemy of ceramic spray. Make sure your car is cool to the touch and out of direct sunlight. Otherwise, the product may flash too fast and become difficult to level or remove.

Step 2 – Start with a Clean, Dry, Prepped Car

If you haven’t already, wash and prep the car properly. If you skip this step, your ceramic spray won’t bond well. For prep, use:

Step 3 – Spray Onto Towel or Panel (Not Both)

Less is more. Spray 1–2 spritzes of ceramic spray onto your Softer Than Soft Towel or directly onto the panel—not both.

Work in small sections (2x2 ft). Wipe on gently using overlapping passes.

Step 4 – Immediately Buff Off With a Second Towel

Grab a fresh, dry towel and gently buff off any remaining residue. This levels the coating and prevents high spots or streaks.

Step 5 – Wait for Cure Time (Don’t Get It Wet)

Let the ceramic spray cure for at least 4–6 hours before exposing it to water. Ideally, keep it dry for a full 24 hours. This allows the polymers to bond properly and lock in protection.

Pro Tip – Layering Ceramic Spray

You can add a second layer of Tough As Shell after 12–24 hours for added slickness and durability. Just make sure the first layer is fully cured and clean before reapplying.
