Why Your Foam Cannon Isn’t Working (And How to Fix It)

Is your foam cannon spraying watery soap? Barely foaming? Not foaming at all? Don’t worry—you’re not alone. Here's how to troubleshoot and fix the most common foam cannon problems.

Problem #1: Weak Foam

If your foam looks thin, runny, or disappears instantly, you may have one of these issues:

  • Wrong Soap: You need a high-foaming formula like The Super Soaper.
  • Too Much Water, Not Enough Soap: Check your dilution ratio. Use 2–4 ounces of soap. See our soap ratio guide.
  • Low PSI: Your pressure washer should be at least 1000 PSI. The higher the pressure, the thicker the foam.

Problem #2: No Foam At All

If nothing is coming out but water or it’s not mixing with soap, here’s what to check:

  • Clogged Foam Cannon Orifice: Hard water minerals or dried soap can block the nozzle. Soak it in warm water and vinegar, or use a thin needle to unclog.
  • Siphon Tube Disconnected: Make sure the pickup tube inside the bottle is attached and fully submerged in the solution.
  • Foam Cannon Knob Turned Down: Most foam cannons have an adjustment knob. Turn it toward “+” or “max” to increase foam.

Problem #3: Inconsistent Spray Pattern

This usually comes from a dirty or partially blocked fan nozzle. Remove it and rinse with hot water or soak it in a gentle soap like The Super Soaper. Avoid poking inside with metal tools, which can damage the shape.

Still Not Working?

If you’ve tried all the above and it still doesn’t work, test your setup step-by-step:

  1. Check water pressure from the hose
  2. Test the pressure washer without the cannon
  3. Try the foam cannon with plain water to see if it sprays
  4. Replace or upgrade the cannon if it’s a cheap model

FAQs

Why is my foam cannon shooting water but not foam?

This usually means the siphon tube is disconnected, the soap ratio is too weak, or the foam knob is turned down. Check all three.

How do I clean a clogged foam cannon?

Soak the nozzle and fittings in warm water and vinegar. Use a pin or soft brush to gently clear buildup—don’t use metal picks or wires.

Does water pressure affect foam cannon performance?

Yes. Foam cannons require at least 1000 PSI from a pressure washer. Anything less can result in weak foam.
