Quivr Hot Coat vs Tough As Shell – Spray Ceramic Showdown
Quivr’s Hot Coat Ceramic Spray claims to deliver next-level gloss and protection. But how does it stack up against a proven option like Tough As Shell?
We did a real-world panel test to compare gloss, beading, streaking, and long-term durability. Here's what happened.
Application & Ease of Use
- Quivr Hot Coat: Easy to spray, but required two towels to level properly. Some light streaking on dark paint when used in heat.
- Tough As Shell: One spray per panel, wiped clean with a single microfiber. No streaks, even on black paint and in the sun.
Winner: Tough As Shell – Faster flash time, easier leveling, no second pass needed.
Beading & Water Behavior
After 24 hours of cure time, we tested both sides of the hood using a hose and spray bottle.
- Quivr: Water beaded well, but beads were larger and sheeting was slow.
- Tough As Shell: Tight contact-angle beads, faster sheeting—especially on vertical panels.
Winner: Tough As Shell – Higher surface tension and better water behavior overall.
Durability After 4 Weeks
We left the vehicle outside with no washes for 30 days (heat, morning dew, and dust included).
- Quivr: Beading reduced noticeably. Slickness faded by week 3. Dust stuck more easily.
- Tough As Shell: Still had noticeable gloss, easy to rinse clean. Beading held up better in high heat and after light rain.
Winner: Tough As Shell – Better long-term behavior under daily driver conditions.
Finish & Gloss
- Quivr: High initial gloss, but required a second buff to eliminate streaks.
- Tough As Shell: Gloss was immediate, even across paint, trim, and glass. No haze or streaks.
